Big Bass Showdown
Yakusa hosted the annual Grandebass Big Bass Showdown on Lady Bird Lake recently. We had a great turnout and awarded over $3,000 cash to the top five finishers. The conditions were far from favorable with the recent rains, temps in the 40's and no sunshine in the forecast. No matter, over 75 competitors showed up with one goal; catch the biggest, baddest bass.
Like most fishing tournaments the day started with an early morning.
Content despite the frustrations of fishing for bass in ultra clear, shallow water.
After a full day judging fish submissions online, Mike & Andrew hand out prizes to the winners.
It was a tough day overall but Steve Garcia struck gold (over $1,800 actually) on a 24.25" bass! One of his 3 bites the entire day. He was fishing in one of those spots where you know big fish like to hang out, an obvious spot, but you don't know whether they're in or out - so you wait. Steve said he actually fell asleep at one point while dragging his jig back to the boat. Fun.
Fishing can be a war of attrition.
1st ($1,896) - Steve Garcia - 24.25"
2nd ($790) - Chris Hines - 21.5"
3rd ($284) - Kayden Drake - 20.25"
4th ($126) - Colson Ginger - 20.25"
5th ($63) - Adam Barnett - 20"
